While installing virtualbox from synaptic the "extra output" window had the below message. Is that a real problem?

Running PCLinuxOS DKMS build routine. Please Wait....

Building module:
cleaning build area....(bad exit status: 2)
make KERNELRELEASE=2.6.22.15.tex2 -C /lib/modules/2.6.22.15.tex2/build M=/var/lib/dkms/vboxadditions/3.1.2-1pclos2010/build/vboxadd && cp /var/lib/dkms/vboxadditions/3.1.2-1pclos2010/build/vboxadd/Module.symvers /var/lib/dkms/vboxadditions/3.1.2-1pclos2010/build/vboxvfs && make -C /lib/modules/2.6.22.15.tex2/build M=/var/lib/dkms/vboxadditions/3.1.2-1pclos2010/build/vboxvfs && cp /var/lib/dkms/vboxadditions/3.1.2-1pclos2010/build/vboxvfs/Module.symvers /var/lib/dkms/vboxadditions/3.1.2-1pclos2010/build/vboxvideo && make -C /lib/modules/2.6.22.15.tex2/build M=/var/lib/dkms/vboxadditions/3.1.2-1pclos2010/build/vboxvideo....(bad exit status: 2)

Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 2.6.22.15.tex2 (i586)
Consult the make.log in the build directory
/var/lib/dkms/vboxadditions/3.1.2-1pclos2010/build/ for more information.

Two questions:

1. Are you fully upgraded?

2. Why are you using such an old kernel?

1. no
2. why not - it's working great

sorry, i'm being un fair...

i run quite a few linux boxen, servers, desktops, laptops. whenever i upgrade, i run the risk of regression, that is, something that used to work does not work the same way or at all (see my other posting about the TB3 fiasco, or quemu/winxp/ie that started blue screening after i fully updated a machine) constantly updating and testing all my machines won't leave me much time for other things...

so generally, i stick to the rule of if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

gilado,

If your not up to date or have been updating selectively the its no wonder that Vbox refused to build, it may be down to the fact there was a rolling rebase where the very core of what all applications are built against were upgraded. older apps will work under the new base but the new apps will likely fail to build against an old base.

Please remember the PCLinuxOS is a rolling distro, where everything should work as long as a> you are up to date and b> there are no non-repo apps in the install, yes on occasion there may be a chance of an issue regression, although that is true within all applications, which is sometimes beyond PCLinxuOSinfluence.

You could take the chance update both kernel and install but depending on how long ago and which selective updates you have carried out it would be hard to dsay what would happen.

gilado,

I had this same error with the new apache web server and had to update to the tex5 kernel to run it.

Thanks all, it seems to be working fine, so I guess the error is immaterial
