Running KDE4, computer fully upgraded.
What I did:
1.uninstalled all installed OO packages (v1.3) to make a clean 1.3.1 install
2. installed getopenoffice from Synaptic
3. ran getopenoffice -- script finished without any issues
4. started writer: nothing happens; started from console: same thing
5. running any other OO component: nothing happens

I have searched the forum and found a number of OO issues, but mine was not there.

TIA

Hi eager2no.

Are You fully updated?
Try running soffice from konsole. Any errors? If yes forum search them.
Try removing /home/user/.ooo3 folder and running the soffice again...

Andy,
Thanks for the tip.
However, it must have been something else:
Before I posted, I tried running writer (and other components) from console, nothing happened.
Worked in Windows for 2 days, then came back to PCLOS, now ran soffice from console, works as expected.
Ran it from the menu, works fine.
I'll never know what the problem was (unless the install requires a reboot...  but no, that sounds absurd).
