I had a perfectly running install using 2.6.27.32 and I tried to make a livecd.
It made an iso ok, but I could not get the live (DVD) to boot, it would go into kernel panic no sync, etc.
After searching for hours and google. I gave up on that disk.

Next I went into synaptic on the machine, removed 2.6.27.331,32, either or both, I forget and left 2.6.26.8 installed, and rebooted as far as I knew into 2.6.26.8.

I made a remaster of that, and the live dvd works perfectly, in fact I am typing online to you now.
The machine will no longer boot. Grub is ok, shows 2.6..26.8 tex4 and 5, safeboot, etc. When I boot it drops me to  login saying enter root password. I do and at prompt, startx won't go, video won't go etc.

If I don't get a simple answer here soon while I'm on a couple errands, I will use the disk to try a re-install, since it is just a clone of what I can't boot on the HDD.

Now while running liveDVD, is there anything I can change?

WAIT! I just remembered I renamed fstab file before remaster. I'll be back, but any comments will help me and others in future, so I'll leave this post here for now.
Thanks.

PCLinuxOS - without rivals

I always remastered successfully with all kernels, but only the remaster with the old kernel (2.6.26.Cool can boot. I tried 2.6.27, 2.6.31, 2.6.32, always got kernel panic, loopfs error or some other problem. Tried every cheatcode in the book, never worked.

I also can't switch to AHCI in my bios (I've got SATa drives), so I'm stuck until the big set of updates arrives.

When the system is completely updated to 2010 I'm sure there'll be a new mklivecd script which will allow a newly remastered CD/DVD/USB to boot without a hitch.

That's good to know, not me for a change, so hair loss was not my fault.

Anyway, I re renamed th fstab back, and all was well.
However, had I re-installed from the live cd, I would have been still missing the fstab.

I read in my travels to remove it and it would rebuild itself.
Anyway I emailed myself a copy of the fstab for safekeeping till I learn to create one myself.
