I'm running PCLXDE and doing any updating via KDE4 PASS repo. For reasons I haven't the foggiest about, my program icons and icons for system things like the PCC and Synaptic etc. which were on the taskbar have suddenly disappeared. I say 'suddenly' because as far as I'm aware I've done nothing to make it happen - though perhaps I have, inadvertently. It seems they were there one minute and not the next. OK, I know it can't happen quite like that, but even so, I've no recollection of doing anything untoward or different that might have caused it. Thing is - how do I get them back? It's not a disaster by any means - I can launch them all in other ways, but just a bit inconvenient. And if I can get them back by some means then I've learned just a little more about PCLXDE - which I love. Anybody?

I wrote a tutorial about how to build it from scratch here > http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,65873.0.html

Hope it helps.  Grin

Thank you rudge. I thought I'd searched the forum but obviously I hadn't. Well, I had - but not well enough. I'll try that out tomorrow and report back. Many thanks.

Another way to correct for something like the removal of the clock is to reinstall lxpanel. The correct format wil be applied, too.

I assume this will work for your problem too.

Thank both you guys. I'd expected to be at that machine today but it's at another location in South London and the weather conditions here are appalling once again. So much so that I'm now figuring on staying where I am for the rest of today. However, I will, as promised, try out your suggestions once I'm at that machine.

I failed. I decided to try Neal's suggestion of re-installing lxpanel. My mistake because he wasn't suggesting it would cure my specifig problem anyway. I went ahead, re-installed it and nothing changed. So then I got clever and decided to uninstall it before re-installing it once again. Wrong. I ended up with what seemed like a rather curious hybrid - half KDE4 and half LXDE. It sort of worked, despite all. But I decided I would almost certainly be building up future trouble for myself if I carried on with it. So I did a complete re-install of LXDE and I'm now back to normal - except I still have nothing on my taskbar except the four rectangles representing my four desktops!!!! I'm going to live with it until I've the time and can summon up the energy to try rudge's total rebuild solution. Many thanks guys, as always. I'm going to mark this as 'work in progress' - or something like that for the moment.
