Linux Command Line E-Book in PDF format

Hi everyone. Iḿ using PCLinuxOS MiniMe and lost my notes about the commandline, struggling with the most basic problem which maybe someone may help me with.

An updated sources.list for non pass members is now available for download from the following link:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/texstar/repo/sources.list

Download and copy it to your /etc/apt directory overwriting the existing one.

Now a few days back i did download that list and popped it in a Kwrite text document, copied as above.
Looking today at the list in Synaptic of the Repositories, against the list I made of the Backed up sources.list (original) and the new one after, a while I could see that I still had the original list of Repositories.

So I simply tried to use the context menu, Copy / Paste the file sources.list (New) into the directory  /etc/apt .
Access denied. The file is owned by root. I thought I could just login as root and overwrite with the new file, but I thought I like to get such basic commands as ¨su¨ copy, move, delete, etc.
I can´t  believe how difficult itś been to find info on the commandline. Everything seems to have moved since I left months ago, this thread came up in a Forum search for Commandline.
Gives me the creeps that we use su, and most use sudo. Very mad I lost all my linux notes, but **** happens.

Have used PCLlinuxOS 2007 and borked the system when there was that major update, my fault ¨The Big Update¨ was an amazing piece of engineering, went without Linux for six months . So dual booting with XP after running MiniMe in VirtualBox and liking the simplicity of it.
Were is the magic command to copy over this file, thanks for reading all this

Please excuse my enthusiasm, I get a little excited 

So the Answer was:
su
cd Desktop/   (Where I had my sources.list)
cp sources.list etc/apt

Then I was asked whether to over write the original sources.list in etc/apt, I typed a y, and it did so.

Honestly thanks heaps for that excellent .pdf  The Linux CommandLine.

Any basic Introductory info about PCLinuxOS*  has to be very visible. I see things changing, which is good, but I also see a lot of people who aren´t using their knowledge to complete the Wiki ... create Tutorials.  The easiest way any decent PCLOS User with some knowledge could support this project is by Documentation.
A Culture that the newbies are important is needed from the beginner, intermediate users.
