Hi All

Been a PCLinuxOS user full time for over two years now, but I got a bit bored so I stuck a new HD in my laptop, chucked in a Fedora 12 disc and installed the latest and greatest from RH...

Well, I dislike gnome, the graphics driver for my old ATI card does not exist (spent ages on the forums...) and scrolling pages in a browser look horrible. I tried an update and then spent ages on the forums again trying to decipher the error messages where Yum kept crashing. Eventually I managed to get the updates sorted, but adding non-free repositories was a problem that again took some forum searching.

After a day or two pretending that I was enjoying all this, I took the HD out, put my original one back in and booted to PCLinuxOS again... Ah Bliss! Like putting back on an old pair of favourite slippers.... Grin Grin Grin

I used to Distro swap a lot (started with RH9) but tried PCLinuxOS and kinda stuck here for years. I'd forgotten just why it was I stuck here so long but now I remember!

I still run Mint on one PC and quite like it, but PCLinuxOS is just SO good. I really had forgotten quite how good this Distro is.

I just thought I'd post up my thoughts - not to have a go at Fedora - but to once again express my sincere thanks to the team of hard working people doing so much to make PCLinuxOS so fantastic.

Thanks  Grin

Maybe you'd like to try the KDE version.. Wink Cheesy Grin
Granted, one can not do better than PCLinuxOS, but, still, one can play a little... Grin Grin

At least PCLinuxOS did not decide to never talk to you, demand that you never use it again, and make you give it half of all your hardware.   Grin Grin Grin

Same here with Mandriva 2010 KDE4.3. I thought it booted faster and worked better. But suddenly it began writing some files into the NTFS folders of Windows 7 that I dual-boot with it. Almost all the files of the Linux were being copied to the NTFS partition whenever I tried to mount those drives in Mandriva ! I didn't understand why, hurriedly uninstalled it and came back to PCLinuxOs. Wonderfully stable !
I am eagerly waiting for the KDE4.3 version CD/DVD !

I got a copy of Fedora 12 with a Linux mag and decided to give it the once over but discovered that there was no live CD version and the only way to try it out  was to install. If I can't "try before I buy" so to speak then I won't try at all.

Now that's strange, I haven't seen one without the live cd feature...must be something different.  Wink Cheesy

Wait, back up a sec...I thought we weren't suppose to talk about other distros:
Quote
Please do not use our forums to discuss other distributions

I know that I posted a link to some other distro (it was just an info) and I was immediately corrected and I complied by editing my post.
I've  learned my lesson and I always use the expression "other distro".

What happened with that rule? I see two distros already in the corner on a single page.
Or is allowed to talked about other distro as long as we slam them or use them as a comparison for how good our distro is?

If someone is telling a story of how and why they found their way back to PCLinuxOS, that's one thing. But if it goes beyond that, posts will be removed. This thread is pushing the line a little, so I am locking it.

BTW please use the report to moderator button to bring breaches of the rules to our attention. I wouldn't have seen this had I not just been browsing, and we don't need moderation attempts in the forums by people who are not moderators.
