This describes exactly what I asked about in another very recent post  Annoying problem with Thunderbird. Grin

[Whenever I try to open Thunderbird for a second time during a session I get the message
Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system.
But I can't close it because I can't find it anywhere.]

YouCanToo solved that by explaining how to press Ctrl-Exc to see the running programs and kill Thunderbird.

That fixed that but it also explains why I was getting the shut down problem.

Because Thunderbird was still running without showing up in my Smoothtasks the machine refused to shut down. Solving one problem nicely solved the other. Grin Grin Grin

I would not trust the Geek Squad as far as I can throw them. Grin
