Trying to configure the 3D desktop effects I get the message "Your system does not support 3D desktop effects" and the option "Compiz Fusion" is not allowed. Is this dependent on which graphic card and driver I use?

I got a Nvidia GeForce 6200 card and the "Geforce 6100 and later" driver. Is there no psossibility to use Compiz with this hardware?

(Processor is AMD 2800 and motherboard is Asus K8N)

Strange... I checked in synaptic, and found that the Nvidia driver for Nvidia 6xxx was not installed. Despite this , in "set up the graphical server" the choosen driver was "Nvidia 6100..." was choosen. Is there no way to check which driver is installed and in use? I thought I did that in the "set up the graphical server", graphic card - section...

Anyway, I installed the proper driver with synaptic and now I can choose Compiz.

Every day is learning !

I had similar problems. In the end I ignored the 3D effects and ran "Compiz Fusion Icon" anyway and from there all the compiz/emerald stuff.

Dudes if you have troubles with your graphics card just run LiveCD of PCLOS and copy from union/etc/X11/ "xorg.conf" file to /etc/X11/ on your root partition.
This may be very helpful sometimes.  Wink

I was just browsing, hoping I might learn something.  Will someone explain to a noob how and why that advice might be helpful?

There are other ways to fix problems with graphics. Using the video command or XFdrake --auto. I also collected my limited knowledge by searching on this friendly forum.  Grin

Ignore it!  I spent hours trying to solve this, eventually I just ran compiz anyway and it worked.  However the KDE4 3D effects don't work, well not fully anyway.  Again I gave up trying to find out why.

all the best,

Malcolm, with rotating cubes and wobbly windows and no 3D effects.......supposedly

I found video was disappeared.

Really hope (but expect)  2010 will be the end of the PCLinuxOS 'depression".
