Since my last posting the scanner was working great. Now with the recent updates from about a week ago, it has stopped working. In XSANE,when I try to scan, it tries to start, scans for 1 sec then stops. No error messages, nothing, just stops..Thank for any help !!

aplumlee,

I also experienced this somwhat...  My HP Officejet would not respond after an update.  I seem to recall that there was a Cups and/or hplip package update.  I just removed my Officejet, and reinstalled.  Then everything went back to normal.

aplumlee,

I had a 3570c for a while, and I recall having to select the 3500 scanner.  I had the 3570c, another 3570, and the 3500 found when I started either xsane or kooka.  If I selected the 3500, it worked.

Is that something you have?

aplumlee,

Sorry you're have difficulties with your scanner.  HP usually just works, printers and scanners.  I do see you are posting in the KDE4 Support section.  I still use KDE3.5, so my experience may not apply to you.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable can jump in and help because I'm just shooting in the dark, but...  in the mean time...

Do you have SANE - local and remote scanner access, and Graphical frontend to SANE as well as xsane installed.  You might uninstall and re-install them to see if that changes anything.  That's done in synaptic

You might post your computer specs, the contents of /etc/sane.d/hp"your scanner #".conf.  I currently have three different ones, plus an hp.conf in that directory.

Also, you might list the hplip.conf in your home/user/.hplip directory.  My hplip.conf in the scanner section is:
[commands]
scan=/usr/bin/xsane -V %SANE_URI%

Keep pluggin' away,

Me and a friend of mine (that is very good with Linux) have tried everything to get this to work..As of 1 Jan 2010, I just update the OS from the repos and the scanner still only responds for a second, then quits. No errors or nothing. Scanner works perfect in Windowsand when runnning KDE3. If there's anymore help out there, I would sure be thankful !!! Thanks in advance !! Smiley

Have you tried running it from a terminal?
Have you tried running it as root user?
Have you checked the system logs for outputs or errors?
What does lsusb show when the scanner is plugged in? (Done from a terminal)

SANE website shows that this scanner should be considered good, using the HP3500 backend.

In the control center when you run scanner set up, what does it find for a scanner?

Every time I go to the control center I have to add the scanner manually
