I have external usb wheel mouse (tried several ).  The mouse randomly freezes.  Touchpad still works.  All else is normal.  Only way so far to get mouse to work again is to reboot which is a pain to do about once an hour.  Any help is appreciated.

Michael.

Did you try unplugging the mouse, waiting for a few seconds, then replugging it? USB devices are hot plugable, so should be reinitialized on replug.

Yes, I have and that is the strange part.  Computer will not recognize the mouse until I reboot.  I haven't tried other usb devices so I don't know if all usb devices stop working.  Next time it happens I will try to print and see what happens.

When the external mouse stops working, all usb ports stop working. Is there something I can monitor to find out what is happening.  So far it looks random.  And it's very frustrating to have to reboot the computer several time a day to use the external mouse.  Touchpad still works.  Toshiba A105 laptop.

Sorry to whip a dead horse.

But my ext mouse on my Gateway M6862 laptop freezes after 5-45 mins. I have to logout/login.
PCLOS KDE fully updated.

The mouse does not freeze if I boot to & use the Vista partition.

I've have never had this on the two laptops I had/have.....hmmm

Mind you, I generally buy Logitech Mice.  This present mouse on my laptop is a wireless-laser-microsoft mouse. On boot-up Linux sees the transceiver and mouse works as soon as is possible.

Is it a usual brand of mouse that you have...
