My keyboard was not working at the grub menu. I could not select a different kernal using the up and down arrows (or anything at all). I had to go into "setup" (in my case f2) and set "usb emulation" to "ON". after that, my keyboard worked.

It's an old Dell, it is in the BIOS settings.
There is a setting for "Integrated Devices" and under that I see "USB Emulation"
I had to turn that to "ON" it was "OFF" by default.

My Dull doesn't have any PS2 - at all. USB is the only option for kb - mouse, etc. The sad bit is, there's no setting in BIOS like is in yours. Sad

Same here.  No BIOS settings, nothing to toggle USB, keyboard, etc. Sad

keys are for locks, not OS's

Some older bioses also use an "enable legacy usb" setting or something worded close to that depending on bios manuf.
