...............At this moment I have an 2800 Barton processor with a 7600GT Nvidia graphic card (a relic some would say) and I can rarely complain about low FPS.

 

i burnt my7600 playing quake4 at max details,i now have an 4650 ati card,but unfortunately to get the most of my card i boot to windows,even at max details textures and effects looked a lot better on my now defunct 7600 while playing on linux.

I would love to get involved, I have not found a single native Linux Game that is any good. I can run ET:Quake Wars but it runs better on Windows but don't change the fact that it's a bit crap. Some stuff you can get to run using Wine but in most cases PunkBuster wont run, so you are stuck with the cheats and hackers on the cracked servers. Playing 5 year old games with low frame rates and crap graphics just so you can run them on Linux. Some games push the abilities of a Windows system, something they have been written for, they just don't work in Wine. I play a lot of ArmA:2 at he moment, Wine wont get anywhere near it, I have tried. Some times you just have to duel boot to Windows, sorry.

Show me a Linux game that looks like this and plays this well, I'll join you...

If all else fails I try Wine. I eventually got Modern Warfare 2 working but you need a decent rig to play at a good frame rate....As Dubigrasu says... A big part of the fun is getting it working on Linux

I play Lord of the Rings Online, Eve Online, Counterstrike source, Day of Defeat source and Fallout 3 all in Wine/Crossover games.
I was impressed that Star Trek online ran in Wine on release day.  However i don't play it 'cos it's boring

A good game on line: Savage2  http://www.savage2.com/en/main.php  is the new time waster in this house       it has a Linux version

A couple of old games that works great in Wine and you can play in a LAN are Sacred Gold Edition and Serious Sam 1 and 2

Specially with Serious Sam I had lots of good hours playing with my kids

About the only game I play anymore on a somewhat regular basis is Battle for Wesnoth.  I have my 12yr old hooked as well and we play against (and with) each other as well as setting up games with some friends from out of province.

I would love to play with any of the forum members here!

I'll have to start using my forum nick on the wesnoth servers I guess.

We played Wesnoth a lot but not anymore, we don't even have that game installed, we're in a sort of "fast killing" stage

One thing with some of the "free online games" is that they need shockwave     to bad

Torcs an Flight Gear is cool also an I love playing them

I only play Open Source, install by synaptic games
