Try installing
wvdial
and
gnome-ppp
from Synaptic. Then open gnome-ppp, fill in the necessary info, and see if that works.

Hi
Download and install this packages via Synaptic:
comgt
usb_modeswitch
hso-rezero
dkms-hso
umtsmon
After that reboot but make sure that PCC > System > Enable & Disable processes > dkms is ticked to start at boot time.
After that you can switch it off.
You can configure the modem using
1 PCC > Network & Internet > Setup New Network Interface > GPRS / EDGE / 3G
2 KMenu > Internet > Remote Access > UMTSMON
3 KMenu > Internet > Remote Access > KPPP
Hope this helps...
Andy
BTW... Question to developers... Can we please add the first 4 packages (or better all of them) to the next iso as a standard? 3G modem users are unable to configure internet connection without connecting to internet first...

Here is how I got my internet working on a Huawei EG162G usb modem.

You might have to change the config details a bit suiting to your device.

Yes this could be a problem...
Hence my question to developers... I actually had to use my neighbors internet connection to download the files to the pendrive. Then files from the pendrive were installed to my installation. Then I could configure my internet connection... Bit of PITA to be honest... Now I have remastered so my own livecd / liveusb constains those packages... but still... its a pain.

There is that issue of repositories that you need to be careful in. Otherwise you will run into problems. If running kde3 there is a thread somewhere here that gives a kde 3 repository that is 'frozen in time'. Use that in your synaptic installations to avoid running in problems.

Set up persistence on the live USB and the changes you make, like installing the extra apps, will be retained.

Look under PC> internet>Remote Access, Is KPPP ( internet Dial-Up Tool ) there ?
If it is then just go here :
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,66823.0.html
Just make the necessary changes to match your service provider
