Greetings:

Just wanted to relate a success story I had yesterday with a remaster.  I had an old, junky NOISY Toshiba Satellite, M35X-S1492 that I hated, but it was given to me, so I used it.  I finally got tired of fixing it and listening to that vacuum-cleaner-like fan.  So I was horsing around on ebay the other day and committed myself to buying a refurbished Dell Latitude D800:  solid, business-class, quiet machine.

So I created a remaster on my old Toshiba, MiniMe 2009.2 with all my customizations and tweaks.  When my new (used) lappy arrived, I booted up the remaster and all the hardware worked, just like that:  to include the integrated broadcom wireless and and the nVidia graphics.  I did a hard disk install off the remaster and 15 min later I was off and running with my new lappy.

I love PCLinuxOS.

grnich,
Fancy doing a step by step how-to in tips and tricks? Some people (like me Sad) still have problems getting a reliable remaster.

Better yet, submit one to the mag!

Anyway, well done and glad it worked for you. Smiley

I'm not sure it will work in all cases, making a remaster on one machine and installing it to another.  I had success going between two different machines, but they were both Pentium M's similar vintage.  Going between, for instance, a Pentium M and a Core-Duo may not work.  I'd be interested to hear if anyone has tried it.

As far as tips and tricks go, I just clicked 'Make Live CD' and followed the prompts, then burned the resulting ISO to CD.

 Cool

grnich, could you indicate what you "filled in" for each of the prompts, please? i follow the prompt, too, but still can't get a remaster so your more complete steps would be a great help.

Thanks and have a great evening!  Smiley
