I don't know the details of setting one up. The Sandbox has convinced me that one would be great!

Yes coffeetime we do have IRC channels.. BUT its not very popular. Why? First? Newbies have no idea how to install and configure the basic IM Client (Like pidgin x-chat or empathy) with irc channels while chat can be done by clicking the link in the browser. Seen it at work (Ajax was used) and its very very cool. Second? Everyone think IRC is dead...

+1 to the chat idea (but lets leave the IRC channels there as well)...

Andy

P.S. Pidgin as IRC client, no brainer - step by step for newbies

I dunno Andy ...

IIRC, most of the versions of PCLinuxOS come with XChat pre-installed. Plus, I wrote an article in the August 2009 issue of the magazine on IRC. Granted, it doesn't have the splash and glitz of some other 'net chat/messaging methods ... and it could use a little more usage ... but it is quite capable.

Personally, I hate chat rooms on sites ... they are usually Java based, and hence slow, sluggish, and grossly lacking in basic features ... or have those features poorly implemented.

This is an example of where a chat room could come in helpful. we could get get lots of members involved at once on our views about things instead of just two. > http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,64542.0.html

Is it pinned somewhere in the forum?

Ediot: Yes, it's pinned in Sandbox! Sad
