I saw a tip some time ago explaining how to open a program in Desktop 1 or 2 ... or whichever desktop you wanted it to open. Can't find it now.

Anyone know of it? Thanks

Once the application is open, you can send it to a desired desktop by Right Clicking in the Window decoration area (That bar at the top of the application). There is a "Move to desktop" option.

Hi,

You are probably looking for forum entry: http://www.pclinuxos.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=62828.0.

Since this entry is a question, it probably should have been placed in section: Software or General.

Regards.

Thanks Rudge - I knew it was easy but not that easy Grin

ljir - Thanks for the link but Rudge's post is the one I was looking for. You're right about being in the wrong section.

Was searching exactly the same - "How do I open a program in a particular desktop". Especially autostarting program.

But the link doesn't work for me.
Every time I click on a link pointing to a particular topic in pclinuxos.com, to say like posted above, I'm taken to the Main page. Huh
E.g. for me this link works equally to http://www.pclinuxos.com/

So I can't read the topic I need and have to bring up this old thread.

?
Any help on one or both problems appreciated.  Smiley

Open the application on the desktop you wish it to open on. Right click the top bar and choose Advanced --> Special Application Settings. There you can set the size of the opening window, which desktop it should open on and other items. Advanced --> Special Window Settings is similar.

My Skype settings look like this;

Talking about PCLOS KDE last version.
The application is linuxdc++.  I set it to autostart and it does it at every account on the first virtual desktop.
For me it isn't a pain but for my moms account it would be better it to start in some other desktop otherwise she finds herself in trouble; she needs only internet browser which I set to autostart too.

Now following your directions I opened linuxdc++ in fourth virtual desktop and right-clicked on the top bar of its window (can't do a "Print Screen" of this). There's no "Advanced --> Special Application Settings" but the usual "Minimize/Maximize/.../.../Move to workspace" etc.

I think I don't understand something?

Did you right click on the top border bar?

I added a screen shot to the last post. Did you see that? I don't know any other way to show what you should be seeing.

Yes I'm still in class. Grin

I saw that.
First of all having that right-clcik I can not apply Print Screen.
Second:
They look some similar but I don't have those "Addvanced" settings there. I'm with 3d-effects.

Evidently it is a difference between our DE.

So till now I'm given some info and will try to elucidate where's the problem - I feel I don't know what to ask. Till I come there don't waste your time here please.  Cheesy

Get precisely the same as uncleV

No advanced options and print screen not working whilst the r/click is  active on the titlebar.

Weird

I open KSnapshot before setting up the shot, set the Snapshot delay: to 4-6 seconds, to give time to get the menus open. and set Capture mode: to Region.

I then click New Snapshot, open the menus, and wait for the time out. I then draw the region, and adjust it, then double click inside the region to take the actual shot. Once taken, I save the shot, and up it to Imageshack for posting here.

Yup - that's how it was set up - region + 8 secs for screengrab.

But once KSnapshot is activated it won't "release" itself and nothing will stop the app. Once the region is marked it doesn't do anything - Enter doesn't work, neither does Esc. In fact Ctrl + Esc doesn't work either so it can't be "killed"

The only way I've been able to "release" back to the system is to Crtl + Alt + Backspace to stop the session.

Having KSnapshot throw a wobbler AND the titlebar r/click not giving the Advanced > Special Application Settings is uber weird indeed.
