add "Exec=plasma-desktop -graphicssystem raster" in /usr/share/autostart/plasma-desktop.desktop ?

How do I add this to the location specified? Thanks

This is how I did it:

In the run dialog (alt+f2) you input this:
Code:
kdesu 'kwrite /usr/share/autostart/plasma-desktop.desktop'

Kwrite with root permissions should open displaying the file. Line 2 is the one you want. Just add -graphicssystem 'whatever backend you want'

I did it about half an hour ago using the raster backend. After restarting X plasma is blinding fast. Grin

Okay I think I got it going.  Grin I have 2 gigs of ram that should be more than enough for my apps and the present settings right?

2 gigs are more than enough for "normal" computer use ....it might be a problem if you ran apps that consumes a lot of memory like opening up and manipulating gigantic image files

Try this too. Open terminal su to root and type kwrite /usr/bin/startkde

change this line from

kwrapper4 ksmserver $KDEWM

to

kwrapper4 ksmserver $KDEWM -graphicssystem raster

Logout and back in again.

Done that and the kde apps really start faster, a lot faster. With this thing and the updated toolchain we will clearely have the best kde4 .

I'll upload the updated kde4 packages tomorrow. The updated rebuild fixed a lot of outstanding bugs such as the menu editor, showfoto, lancelot etc...

They said you could also do it per application by editing the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications/kde4 and changing the exec line such as

Exec=kmail -caption "%c" to  Exec=kmail -graphicssystem raster -caption "%c" but I'm not seeing any difference by doing it.

Have these changes been made to the system through updates or should we try them manually?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I think Tex is planning on including in the updates, but adding it in yourself shouldn't make a difference since it will be updated when you do the update.
