For some time my wife desired an all-in-one printer instead of needing to turn on scanner, turn on/off windows or linux box etc.

Went shopping in local BB store (BB=big box store). I justified the expense as wanting something to make PCLOS CD's on printable media. The Lightscribe discs I made just doesn't make it.

We came home with a HP C309a kitchen sink affair.
Without using the supplied disc of possible crapware, Windows 7 found it as a printer right away on her laptop.

Since I put W7 in place of her Vista install, she never dual boots to linux anymore  Cry

So all well and good? No, I wanted to try the scan document feeder etc. The LCD screen on the printer said I had to do it by computer control.

--SNIP lots of useless rambling...

W7 is not supported yet on this printer, for anything but printing, and maye fax.

hp and its forums, have no solution except to wait until the official release of w7 Oct 22.
Considering returning it to the store, which has no return fee, hoping w7 will work in October, and other ideas, she let it slide.

Last night I got on my old Gateway 450rog laptop, in PCLOS triple boot of W7 and XP, and 'looked' for a printer to add.

In less than 5 minutes flat, (including finding it on the wifi) after reading I needed some hplib or something (already in synaptic), I had not only the printer and fax running, but the scanner, document feeder, the whole ball of wax!

W7 hardware support has yet to catch up with PCLinuxOS!

The proof is in the 'putting' put PCLinuxOS on your machine!.

Wonder if the thing will work with xp in a virtualbox with usb support. Wish I had a project like that.

Actually, the expression is: "The proof of the pudding is in the eating".

Which makes a lot more sense in this context!!
