Suggestion for 2 more magazine sections

Hi all,

I would like to suggest 2 more sections if you agree.

First, i think it would be nice to have a section about gaming and games
Every IT and Computer magazine has it.
We  can call it something like "Game Zone" or whatever you like...
Here can be included native games, free and commercial, wine games that can be run on pclos, maybe emulator games (mame, snes, pcx etc...)
and maybe subsection "retrospective" for dosbox and scummvm

The other is about using various devices with linux.
Like iPod, phones, cameras, webcams, projectors, tv and fm tuner cards, all stuff that you can plug on pc, but requires some knowledge to make it run under linux.
For instance, i got a HTC phone as gift, running windows mobile 6.5, and i got it to work only under win with ActiveSync.
There is alternative for linux called SynCE, but i still have no luck. Online resources are vague on this subject, and if i have success, that can be a nice article.

Of course , i volunteer to work on these section with anyone who wants.

• How I Got My Favorite Windows Game To Run Under PCLinuxOS and Wine
• How I Got My Favorite Legacy/Emulator Game To Run Under PCLinuxOS

or

• How I Got PCLinuxOS To Interface With My iPod
• How I Got PCLinuxOS To Interface With My Cell Phone
• How I Got PCLinuxOS To Interface With My __________ (fill in the blank)

... here's your chance! All serious submissions will be seriously considered.

I know that some of you out there are "gamers;" others are "gadget hounds" who love tinkering with the latest gadget. Why not share your successes by telling other PCLinuxOS users how to get the games/gadgets up and running?!!

Here are some considerations when you write your article for the magazine:

1) Try to use American English, and use proper English (up to your ability ... don't worry if it's not perfect, however ... that's where the Magazine staff can help you).

2) Be DETAILED in your explanation ... and go STEP-BY-STEP. No step should be considered to be too small (or obvious) to be mentioned. Make sure the steps are in the proper order. Imagine trying to tell someone who has never done this before how to do it. That's how simple and straight forward it should be.

3) Include screen shots (in PNG format). The old adage "a picture is worth a thousand words" really does ring true with readers. Plus, it makes your article easier to read. So, whenever possible, include a screen shot to show users what to expect and the outcome of their efforts.

4) List the hardware specs of your computer you used to test this on. Be particularly diligent in listing any special hardware requirements (e.g., a game requires 128 MB video memory, and lets users know that their old P3 with 8 MB video memory probably isn't going to generate the same, or acceptable, results). Another example would be interfacing certain peripheral devices may require a USB 2.0 connection, or a FireWire connection. Be certain to let the readers know this information.

As far as the format to submit your article in, OO.o Writer files work well ... or AbiWord ... or KOffice. We're not that particular about the format of the submitted article ... only that the contents of the article are relevant and of interest to PCLinuxOS users, and that the above guidelines are adhered to.


Great ideas! The magazine, after all, is the COMMUNITY'S magazine. But I can't run the articles if no one submits them.
