Making wacom tablets work seem a pain. Could someone write a "tablet guide for dummies" in the mag's next issue?

That sounds like a good idea, gregholg!

Now ... since I don't have a wacom tablet, would anyone like to take this up? Or, gregholg, you could document your efforts in getting it to work, and write an article.

And, just to be sure everyone knows ... the magazine has a new forum. The board here is still active, but there is one dedicated just to the magazine. It's address is: http://pclosmag.com/forum/index.php.

Thank you for trusting in my unproven abilities as writer. I accept the challenge. When's the next issue out?

Something on default directory structure - more along the lines of "what goes where?"  When I install something, where does it go?

What is the standard search path when a command is typed?

Something about "mount points and partitions?"   I understand the concept of mount points, but I still seem to have managed to put most of my space in a place where it's unusable.

Something about "symbolic links?"

Just some thoughts from a guy that knows Windows/DOS pretty well (or at least thinks he does -  Roll Eyes), and is ready to learn more about my new love, Linux.   Kiss

Rute is listed in the synaptic, so you can download it to your hard drive or desktop.

To smooth the KDE4 transition, maybe a basics how-to?

This topic would interest me too. I see Rute is recommended, which I have had a copy for several years. Perhaps then time to blow the proverbial dust from the (electronic) covers and that might provide a good start. Still, I am new to PCLOS, System V, and RPMs. Not new to free/libre software but I need and want to learn the PCLOS innards as quickly as possible. An overview article would help!

Fast overview. From Synaptic, install the man-pages package. (type man-pages in the Search box) Then in konqueror web browser, type, in the Location: bar;

man:hier

and press the Enter key.

Thanks for the tip! I'm familiar with the traditional file system hierarchy. However, I was referring to anything specific or unique within PCLOS. Smiley

For example, there are many web pages explaining the initialization process, but which init scripts are unique to PCLOS or modified to serve PCLOS in a unique manner? Seems most or all of the scripts contain some kind of description in the headers, but an article explaining the big picture would be nice.

Or, for example, where is all the package information stored? Probably somewhere in /var (/var/lib/rpm?). I haven't had time to look or explore that question. Yet when a person types rpm -q -a that information must be extracted from somewhere.
