PCLinuxOS: A revolution in personal computing

« Reply #15 on: September 17, 2009, 01:39:44 PM »

Hi All
Can this guide be used for a Brother DCP135C? its not for me but for a friend I convinced to switch to Linux ( PCLOS). I will have to instruct him over the phone.
Really want to get this printer working for him as it's taken ages for him to actually trust using Linux. So far he really like PCLinuxOS ....
Thanks
Steve

As long as you use this driver instead:

http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/download_prn.html#DCP-135C

Obviously I have not tested it but it ought to.

PCLinuxOS has no wealthy sponsors and can only survive with your donations! Don't wait it might be too late.

Running PCLOS on Athlon II/250 with 2Gb Ram using ASUS M2N68-AM Plus Mobo with Nvidia GF7600GT graphics, and Samsung NC10 Netbook

Yes Brother printers from the solutions site will work.

Remember the LPR driver must be installed first.

http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/download_prn.html#DCP-135C

rpm -ivh must be used to install drivers. LPR driver followed by the cups driver

Quote
rpm -ivh dcp1400lpr-1.1.2-1.i386.rpm cupswrapperDCP1400-1.0.2-1.i386.rpm

There is also an autoinstall script.

Rodger

kdeadmin-kpackage is not in synaptic, but the solution for the auto-install script in roved210`s post above has worked just fine for my DCP-115C printer/scanner.

Thanks for the advice Smiley
