Then you will only have to follow the steps outlined at the end of this post to setup localized mo-files for addlocale.

That's perfect !
My best,

addlocale 2.2 is out.

Changes:
- now works with the latest OpenOffice 3.1. If a OpenOffice locale is available for the selected locale then any older version is completely removed (to avoid any issues, like segfaults, Zulu, etc..) and then the latest version 3.1 is installed.
- added all OpenOffice languages also found as KDE locales; OO languages without KDE equivalent need to be added manually
- more robust check for proper Synaptic setup
- fixed a small problem with Czech localization
- fixed: initial information and version numbering was not displayed in 2.1

have fun,
-pinoc

Installed addlocale (ver. 2.2) and wanted localization in german. Everything went well (my wife was very excited), but when the localization was done, she lost the whole Openoffice?? It was completely removed Huh Why?
She was using Ooo 3.0.1

Hi coffetime,

addlocale will remove any old OOversion and replace it with the latest localized OO build (3.1). The current addlocale 2.2 has a small OO-bug causing your problem. This bug has been fixed in the new version 2.3 out any day now. For now, and since the localization to German has worked fine, open Synaptic, add the OO-repo (maybe you have it already) and then add task-openoffice3-de-DE. Or wait for addlocale 2.3.

sorry for the problems, hope this info will be helpful,
-p.

Coffeetime,

great to hear all is fine! You should also find a file with information on the desktop detailing how to get the German dictionary for OO. And remember, you can change the OO-locale without changing the system locale, see the initial post for more info.

thanks again for the feedback and have fun with your 'new German system'  Wink

regards,
-pinoc

Edit: too many things in my head... The dictionary info will only be there when running addlocale. To get the German dictionary you need to:
1. Ensure Openoffice is not running.
2. Open the following url in your web-browser:
   http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/dictionary?cid=926385
3. Download the appropriate dictionary, open it with Openoffice, and follow the instructions.

addlocale 2.4 is out having the following changes:

new features:
* the installation/upgrade of OO has been completely rewritten in addlocale (AL). This part has also been extracted and adjusted to become a new standalone application called GetOpenOffice (GOO), which is now available in the repo.
* test for sufficient disk-space when installing a new locale and/or OO in both, live session and installation
* resumable download of translation archive including test for network interrupt or temporary server failure
* if OO is not installed but enough space is available you will get the option to add a localized OO to the new localization
* PCLinuxOS version check added, addlocale can only work on 2009.1 or later, or on an older version which has been fully upgraded.
* improved test for correct Synaptic configuration

bug fixes:
* fixed issues when being used in some locales like Arabic.
* Czech OO had a problem
* OO-dictionary information was partly wrong assigned
* removed testing of latest package refresh which could interfere with update-notifier

Please also note the updates with respect to the live-session in the original post.

have fun,
-p.

Just installed 2009. After the updates finished, I ran addlocale and in the middle of removing Ooo, my computer froze. Only hard reset helped. I tried again, but now it's reporting:

The download of the translation archive is incomplete.  This may indicate a temporary server failure or other network problem.
Please try running addlocale again a little later and we will continue from whatever could be downloaded.

Exiting...

The reason why I'm asking is because Synaptic is downloading stuff without any problems. I'm using:

Which repo does "addlocale" use?

I think it's synced to all the servers..

Pinoc, I believe, also has a server on which a couple of the files are held..

Just do as it says..  Wait and try again later..

Good luck,

Hi coffeetime,

AL will use whatever repo is specified in your setup plus auto-configure the OO-repo but only if you want to also add OpenOffice for the new locale. In addition to downloading from the repo, AL will also have to download 2 files from my server: the first one is a tiny one having a list of files which will have to be downloaded from the repo. This file should never be an issue (unless my server is totally dead of course Grin ), the second one is the pre-processed translation archive which is typically ~ 8 MB or less, you should see the size in the download window. Assuming you install German, it is ~11.5 MB and I just tested to download it and got the same error you mentioned, so I know what I will have to talk about with my sys-op next Monday  Cheesy
Since I know they have these issues from time to time I added the resumable download feature. I just tested it here on my incomplete German download and it worked fine, so I suggest just run AL again and it should pick up from what it got before.
good luck and let me know if it worked.

regards,
-p.

PS: addlocale should at no point make your PC freeze. Uninstalling OO is done via apt-get and I don't see why this should freeze your PC?

No, no...PC didn't freeze because of AL. Something else was wrong. Sorry, I should be more clear Grin. OK, so I'll try later. Thank you.

News from today and to provide the best possible and uptodate translations for the new isos:
- processed a freshly synced PCLinuxOS repo
- enriched by the latest another distro translations
- packaged the localized language archives
- uploaded to the server to be accessed by addlocale

The updated translation archives are now ~ 5% larger so you might find some more things translated.

Remember and in case you do a fresh 2009.2 install: you can run addlocale already on the liveCD and then select the desktop shortcut "Install PCLinuxOS" to install your already localized system  Wink

Have fun with the new isos and enjoy your new localized PCLinuxOS system!

good luck,
-pinoc
