Just upgraded to V2.0.0.72 of skype-static and now I can't connect to my skype account. It says that "Another Skype instance may exist".

I've logged out, quit skype etc etc. Everything except complete removal and re-installation.

Any ideas on what is going, fix etc.

thanks,

Malc

Start   File Manager Super User Mode  and delete the  /home/you/skype  directory. That will fix it.

Or   File Manager Super User Mode  right click on the /home/you/skype directory  Properties-Permissions tab. Change the ownership from root to you in both User and Group, check the box for Apply changes to subfolders ----------. then OK.  Then you won't lose old chat archives, etc: if they are important to you.

Sal,

just a thought: if the upgrade necessitates the deletion of the old skype folder wouldn't it make sense to have that action as part of the post synaptic download process?

regards,

Malcolm

We discussed it but it was problemsome and required a lot of work. More work than it takes to explain to the few users that have been using it in the past how to fix it.   Wink

Just a note: I installed the non-static version on Jan 13 and everything worked perfect. To all the Developers at PCLinuxOS I say "Thank You"!

As non root i can see the skype folder in /home/skype but cannot modify it. As root or in file manager super user mode i can not see the folder despite doing the "show hidden files" thing. What am i doing wrong? There does not appear to be a home/YOU/ folder only a /home/.
