did you fully update your system? ( click reload -> mark all upgrade -> apply ) ..did both samba server and client updated too? ..if you are having dependency issues, then i suggest opening up another thread to deal with them as this one deals with networking and dependency conflicts are outside this scope ..

glad you got things sorted out ..after 3 pages ..smile..

just to be clear for future references, after you update your system, you can now do normal networking btw pclinuxos and windows vista, right?

do you have any local folder on your system shareable over the network?

the following thread has some info you might need: http://www.pclinuxos.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=6990.0

can you type "smb:/" in konqueror address bar and press enter ..that will bring you to another window that will show a graphical representation of computers on your network ..you should be able to see different workgroups, click the one you have your computer under(mine says mshome) ..and your computer should show up ...clicking on the icon and you will see all folders you have set up to be shared on the network ..

notice that following the above will allow you to see the local folders you have set up to be shared as if you are looking at them from another computer ..if you can access them, then the problem could be on vista's side ...if you cant, then that might mean you havent set them up properly ..

vista can see the machine, it just cant access it and that could mean a permission issue ..make sure the folder you have set up to be shared have reading permission set

makes me wonder if you have vista or vista pro..
you'll die of old age before the newer home versions hook up like you want to..
my suggestion to get past it.. if a person wanted to bad enough
would be to install a server on that box..  eg.. filezilla  vnc ect..
and they are in your repository here ;-)
but I don't do windows
