Hello, everyone. I'm not really new to the forum, but it's been over a year, so I figured I'd reintroduce myself. I'm Robyn, a typical old-school geek girl from (now, anyway) the Great Lakes region of New York State. I live just below Lake Ontario, on the Erie Canal.

How "old-school"? Well, let's just say I learned programming under CP/M on a Kaypro 2X and let it go at that. (Anyone remember WordStar?)

I used to be a systems engineer for unix, Windows, and Mac OS-based systems. After a major Windows catastrophe last week on my laptop, and two unsuccessful attempts to recover (it seems my backup files had all disappeared from my Seagate external drive), I downloaded and installed PCLOS 11 as a last-ditch effort to recover them. After the installation, I plugged in the Seagate, and lo and behold, all of my files were there! This, after Windows saying there was nothing on the drive.

See you around the boards!

Robyn Jane

To make a long story even longer, I then downloaded and install the Full Monty, and my system is back up and running once more.

I'm currently attending Monroe Community College and working towards my degree in Entrepreneurial Business Skills, so that my wife and I can begin our own business.

I don't mind being called a lady, since that's generally how I try to act. I prefer "woman," but have pretty much been called everything. I'm sure when I act like one, someone will call me a b*tch. Still, your definition of that term and mine may not be the same: B (Babe) I (In) T (Total) C (Control) H (of Herself).

Besides, I find it amusing that most men in my experience tend to use that word as an epithet, mostly when I am doing something of which they disapprove.

Happy days, everyone!

OK so I was wrong. Kinda missed that "girl" after the geek. At least we got that sorted out. Did I already extend my welcome?  Wink
