Hello,
       The failure of sound seems to be random.I have pasted the output of gcompris -D below.
Sorry I can't because:The message exceeds the maximum allowed length (20000 characters).
I have posted the output of gcompris alone.

[trevor@madhouse ~]$ gcompris
** Message: Binary relocation disabled

** (process:6350): WARNING **: exec_prefix NONE

package_data_dir         = /usr/share/gcompris/boards
package_skin_dir         = /usr/share/gcompris/boards/skins
package_menu_dir         = /usr/share/gcompris/boards
package_locale_dir       = /usr/share/locale
package_plugin_dir       = /usr/lib/gcompris
package_python_plugin_dir= /usr/share/gcompris/python
user_dir                 = /home/trevor/My GCompris
Infos:
   Config dir '/home/trevor/.config/gcompris'
   Users dir '/home/trevor/My GCompris'
   Database '/home/trevor/.config/gcompris/gcompris_sqlite.db'
load_desktop_datafile /usr/share/gcompris/boards/click_on_letter/default-en.desktop

I don't think it shows anything.

Hi, you can use the site http://pastebin.com : paste there, submit, bring back the link. It should be as long as needed until you get the annoyance. Insist a bit on having sound, then do a Ctrl+c in the console to quit the application.

Thanks.

Do you have prelink installed ? if yes, try to remove prelink package.

Hi,
trustyrev, do you have the version done in summer last year or the one provided for Christmas ? In the latest versions I have installed prelink, in order to prelink specifically Gcompris. Just this one and no one else, because I wanted Gcompris to launch in a Live in a normal span of time, whereas otherwise it would take several minutes. (making the user believe the icon from desktop was not working)

So if this is likely to make Gcompris work less well, I could manager to get it removed at post-install time (when you reboot after you installed to hard drive).

AS, thanks for reminding me that prelink can bring some bugs.

Regards,
Mélodie

Ok I see. I don't know why at one moment I thought you were using it in the Edu version. But in fact not, you are using it in your usual system. Sorry for the mistake. Smiley

Hi,
Do you have one or more sound sources enabled ? ie : more than one sound card, or pulseaudio enabled ? (I'm not too keen in sound things, particularly when it comes to subtle problems, this is just a tiny clue to be looked at).

I couldn't replicate the problem, will try in other machines. This are old computers. I asked the teachers to pay attention to this, they told me "bu is working fine"  Undecided

I'm with melodie in this, maybe a sound config problem? the machine at home has problems when I change sound from Amarok to Firefox and have to reconfigure kmix each time.
