I have to admit. I'm struggling here in linux. Is there a place where I can specify a file 'say a magnet torrent file' to automatically open in Ktorrent once I click on it? The 'open with' option as in windoze doesn't seem to exist or list the options I would expect.

How would I get ktorrent  to automatically associate with magnet files or indeed torrents!

If you "right click" a file, you will see an "Open With" option.

(if the option you want is not in the list, "Other" should be at the bottom.)

Pick that option and select the program that you want to use.

At this point, there should be a  "Remember application association for this type of file" box that can be clicked "on".

Once you click on that, the files of that type should open with that program.

Additionally, you can find further File Association options by going to:

Configure Your Desktop >> Common Appearance & Behaviour >> File Associations

If you can keep you head while all around you are losing theirs, then you have misunderstood the situation.

Thanks folks. I'm pretty sure that I shall now get it sorted. My problem had been that after 'Open with' and then 'other' left me unable to find the application that I wanted to open with. I shall try the desktop settings approach.
