The mirror being used does have a check in front of it in Settings=>Repositories. So it has been checked.

What Just18 means is, check that the package actually exists on the mirror you are downloading from. I just checked it on the http://ftp.ch.debian.org mirror, and the file is there and is installable.

If you had your repository selected to heanet.ie, it was down for a little while yesterday evening.  Otherwise, what djohnston said.

Good Hunting,
D

[EDIT]  Question:  does Synaptic "disappear" when pulling down anything else?  Let's see if you have a Synaptic issue instead of a repository issue.

Jot back and let's see.

Below is the repositories I have selected and now trying to go  an upgrade and the package manager quits and goes away. I don't know the logic in what to select.
clinuxos/megagames/http://ftp.vim.org/ibiblio/distributions/papt/
http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/pclinuxos/apt/
http://mirror.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/mirror/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/

Stuff to get upgraded.

You have two main repositories selected. You should only have one. Use either the heanet repository, or the ucalgary one. Not both at the same time. You will eventually bork your install, if you have not done so already.

djohnston's point about two repositories is well taken - the only second repository that is at all cricket here is the megagames repository you list.  Having two "main" repos is a bad deal - slows down your upgrades, and can lead to the aforementioned borked system).

You might try the Synaptic Repository Speed Test.  That should tell you which repositories will be fastest for you to use, and help you set them.

Your other option for upgrading is to use
Code:
apt-get upgrade
from a root shell.  This will upgrade everything that needs to be upgraded on your system, though.  (Be aware of this if running low on disk space on the partition where /bin and /usr/bin are stored.)

Synaptic doesn't throw any errors, or segmentation faults or anything, huh?  Just vanishes?  I remember something like this happening to me back when I was still running PCLinuxOS 2009.1, but the upgrade to 2009.2 fixed that.

Do your symptoms look anything like this thread:

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,96030.0.html

If so, it looks like setting a new repository is the way to go, but, if I'm reading correctly you've already tried that.  Run the speed test - that should tell you what you need to know.

Good Hunting,
D

I went back to just using heanet and then did reload package information. Upgrading worked really nice. May be I was not in sync with what I really had for packages.  Thank you all for the help and not to click on too many repositories.
