As much as I enjoy Mark Knopfler, Terry Williams is why I have watched this over the years. All the time I played drums just once it would have been fun to be that good. Smiley

Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing is one of my all time favorites.

I think Terry Williams rocked in that band. Want to know why?

He answers the question himself at 5:50 in the video and,, he lets the cat out of the bag at the same time.

Watch what he is doing,, he is actually "singing" or at least "mouthing" the sounds of the lead guitar part.

This is an indication that he is not just keeping time, he is actually listening and "playing" music with the band.

It may seem subtle and insignificant but it is prof positive that this guy was a good "Musician".

I think listening is one of the biggest, overlooked "keys" to being a successful drummer/percussionist.

You can't just play "1.2.3.4."...... Any drum machine can do that.  Wink

I'm happy you're all enjoying it. No matter what's going on watching this puts me in a happy place. I just love watching and listening to people who can play well. From age 15 up to now I still use a head set so I can enjoy rock music at almost full volume. The amps destroyed my hearing years ago. Smiley
That's OK I would do it over again. Grin Grin

When I was young and played in a band I did that on the lead guitar.  Obviously not like Mark but it wasn't too bad either, given that we always played the song to fast ....  Roll Eyes

That was the time when you had to write the text from a tape you listened to.  If you are a young man with only rudimentary knowledge of the English language we had some interesting lyrics to that song ....  Grin

Anyway - waffling on, this brings tons of memories ....  Cheesy
