Are my methods unsound?

WWW
« on: February 03, 2012, 10:55:21 AM »

Coming from Linux Mint Debian Edition end being a GNOME3/KDE4-refugee, I almost found everything I hoped for in PCLinuxOS LXDE; i.e. a lightweight LXDE rolling release with a stable core.

I installed and configured it on two of my desktops so far and more family PCs that I service will also come soon.
Whilst doing so, I meticulously kept a Calc sheet list of every little inconvenience I came across during the set-ups and how I solved it. I think this may be of interest to you to make the LXDE experience even more user-friendly in upcoming spins. (Leiche Huh)

However, I am also missing a couple of packages of the Debian testing repository: cqrlog (a ham radio logging program), an up-to-date version of the beid card reader and perhaps some other stuff.

This is why I would like to give a try at packaging.

Hi Leiche,
And hello there in Sauerland. (I live not so far away from Aachen, where I buy all my hardware, BTW)

I have a list of 28 items that are not working as they should. Quite a few of them are simply because of a missing or wrong Categories= statement in the pertaining .desktop file. The effect is that installed applications do not appear in the LXDE menu. However, there is also real broken stuff. I also have a list of 16 items that should better be configured by default. It would make the live of a novice user easier.

How do I proceed? I see there is no real bug reporting system apart from the "Broken" section in this forum. Can I send you a personal message with a LibreOffice attachment?

I can relate. And, no, your methods are not unsound. (I understand the movie reference.) Thanks for offering to help package. And a big welcome to the forum!
