I'm just preparing a system for disposal so the installation is absolutely mint.
I have just noticed that none of the icons for running programs appear in the system tray.

This is in KDE4 on the latest x86 version of PClos.

I cannot see any obvious place from where this function could have been disabled.

Right Click>unlock widgets
Right cilck (empty space in panel) >smooth tasks settings
or
install smooth tasks - if it isn't installed
