Over the past 15+ years, about every 6 to 10 months, I tried to move from Windows to Linux.  Most attempts would last for 2 to 3 weeks then I would give up in disgust.  This time things are looking much better.

My system is a 64 bit machine with the following:
Motherboard - MSI 760G-E51 AM3 DDR3 64 bit  (looking at changing this board for the ECS BLACK board and adding another 4 gig of ram.)
CPU - AMD PH II Quad 4 @ 3.2G
Memory - 12 Gig DDR3
Graphic Card - Nvidia GT430 with 1, 19" ACER monitor and 1, 32" Toshiba TV on HDMI
Hard Drive 0 - 750 GB SATA Seagate with Windows 7 Ultimate
Hard Drive 1 - 1 TB SATA Hitachi with PCLinuxOS on 450 GB and remainder free for NTFS system.
Hard Drive 2 - 160 GB ATA currently empty but plan experimental Linux installs.  If I can solve the GRUB GRUB2 SNAFU
Power Supply - 850 watts

The system is on a windows home network with 5 additional computers and 2 printers, both wired and wireless.  The install found all the computers and the printer config was easy.

The PCLOS install was easy and after a little digging had both monitors working.  Changed to the Linux 2.6.38.8-pclos3.pae kernel hoping to make use of the 12 gigs of memory.  Looking forward to the 64 Bit Kernels.  Tried the testing ISO but could not get it to boot after the install.

So far have WINE working - maybe? I did run the IE Browser with it.  I have a lot to learn here.

Installed Openbox but have not touched it yet.

My Goal or Plan is to have a "Swiss Army Knife" type computer.  I want to install either Gentoo, Arch or debian on the ATA 160 GB drive to drive myself crazy with.  They all use GRUB2 and mess up booting.

I was able to install PCLOS on an old gateway Portable with out any problems.  This has to be the BEST Linux distro I have tried so far.

I must have made at least 50 installations of different distros over the past 2 weeks including: debian, mint linux, another distro, arch, gentoo, opensuse and found them all unsatisfactory.

GREAT JOB PCLOS CREW.

eddie,
A warm welcome to you, from New Zealand.
You have arrived at the right place with this distro and this forum. IMHO, there is no need to look anywhere else.
There is another compelling reason why you have arrived at this distro - the excellent magazine.
Download a few pdf copies from the magazine site and I am sure that you will be impressed.
Enjoy.

They don't call this the distro hopper stopper for nothing. Grin
