As in the subject, I'v installed the PCLOC on the HD with no problem. After updating all the software using Synaptic I can't login. For the sec there is the message that system failed to load the visual screen. only text line is available.

The iso you installed from? Some hints as to what your actual hardware is, so that we don't have to guess?

That's better. But, we're still gonna need the iso version and desktop. For example, the current KDE iso is 2011.09.

Yeah, the ISO version is 2011.09 and also is Full Monthy desktop. Now, just above that commend line it says: "PCLinuxOS 2012 ..." I'm sorry for being such a noob but I'm starting with Linux.

There is an extra step you need to take now before you can upgrade, as the repository has been modified since that ISO came out.

As you have just installed, it might be quickest to re-install before going any further, so you hacve a fully functioning system.

Then open Synaptic, reload, and search for the package "apt-sources-list". Mark that for installation and apply. Once that is installed, open Settings->Repositories and select the repo you want to use. Then reload, and Mark all upgrades etc.

This extra step is needed to include a new repo section which didn't exist when the ISO was made.

Obviously we need a new ISO, but the lead developer is off sick at present which will probably delay that a bit.

In the meantime, perhaps the instructions need modifying to add the extra step.

Please remember to always only select one repo at a time (+ the megagames repo).

As you are in UK, heanet might work well for you.

the latest kde iso has been released today. If you dare, give it a try. You might not have any new packages to download.

Is the text you are seeing in a "login:" prompt?

If so then log in as root (type root and press return, enter the root password and press return)
You should see a # prompt.
Type drakx11 and press return.

Use this tool to reconfigure your graphics card correctly (or try xorg|vesa).
It is a bit tricky in text mode but basically you use the arrow keys and tab key to move around and use return and space keys to select and toggle.

Hope that helps
