As I understood the posts, the OS booted to a log in prompt which implies to me that the graphics driver needs to be set.

That should get the OS to a desktop.

Does that device have a tegra-graphical card?

No it has the ATI Radeon 6250 graphics card.

The one with the tegra is the android model, A500.  This is the W500.  HUGE difference in specs.

Yep, I forgot about that....
Is it a special card for this device, with specific drivers - or should it work with the general ATI-drivers.... (maybe someone knows)

If you don't get boot messages when pressing Esc during the boot process, either the keyboard is not recognised (blue bar continues and no response to pressing the key) or the system has not been able to connect to a virtual terminal (black screen, possibly with flashing underline cursor). If you can't get it to show a terminal (try pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1..6 after Esc just in case you're not seeing the right terminal) I can't hold out much hope.

Please give a complete answer. We can't know the implications of pressing the function keys if we don't know exactly what happened before you pressed them. When did you press Esc? What happened? What did you see?

If we are going to be able to help we need more than one line answers like "It didn't work" or "it did nothing". we can't see your tablet so you need to tell us everything. Too many good people are trying to guess what you see. Please tell us.

I suspect at the end of all this we might have to conclude the answer to your question is "it doesn't, at least, not on the tablet you've got", but we're not there yet because you haven't given us enough information.
