Fully updated PCLinuxOS-2011 KDE

When loading a CD K3B will recognize artist and tracks just fine (so does dolphin) but Amorok loads it as "Various Artists" with correct Album Title and all artist/tracks are unknown.  Dolphin places in correct folder as well.

Basically Amarok is throwing almost every ripped CD into Various and lists it as "Unknown" then lists the tracks as "unknown"  For example lets say the song's name is "CrazyTrain"; so Amarok will list the song as "1-unknown 1-CrazyTrain.ogg" so we have to go through and input artist name and edit out the "unknown", numbers etc.

Amarok may or may not recognize artist name depending on CD.
Update tool in Amarok does not pull info correctly even though dolphin has correctly.
We use CD-Text if available otherwise CDDB database.

I just ripped "Panic at the Disco" and K3B & Dolphin recognized Artist & Tracks correctly.  Clementine displays all tracks without the Artist's name. Amarok lists it under Various Artists, lists the Album title, shows tracks as "1-Unknown Artist-The Ballad of Mona Lisa-Panic at the Disco".  In this case Amarok has the Artist name in the track title even though it displays the artist as "unknown".

Hope someone can help before my wife & daughter go mad over it, LOL  Grin

OK, so I went into home>.kde4>share>apps>amarok and deleted files that pertain to amarok configuration and personal settings.  Opened amarok and let it scan my music folder.  Everything looks to be in place correctly.  I'll post a follow up when I rip another CD.  One note: my wife says it seems to happen with newer CDs rather than older ones (older being pre-2000).

The following was helpful but still requires manual tagging:

Quote
What separates Various Artists albums and tracks and albums sorted under their artists is the Album Artist tag. When you click "Show under Various Artists" in the context (right-click) menu, that tag will be emptied if it is filled, and the opposite happens to a file in VA when you "Do not show under VA", only the AA tag will be auto-filled from the Artist tag.

If there is no Album tag filled in, and no AA tag filled in, Amarok will put the track into Unknown Album in VA. If you want them sorted otherwise, tag them the way you want them sorted. If you don't know some of the information, try out the new MusicBrainz function in the tag editor, or use Picard if you have a lot of tracks to tag. EasyTag, Puddletag and Kid3 are other favorite taggers.
