I am going to move my current setup to a new machine this weekend.
I current run LXDE - initially installed from 2011 09, faithfully updated.
I have separate partitions for /, swap, and home so I planned to run a current install/update from a new LXDE download and add the various packages that I have installed.  I will then reload the home partition from my backup.

I am interested in looking at KDE also.  Is it possible to add the KDE desktop?  Would this be done by installing task-kde4-minimal?  Selecting that indicates that 65 packages will be upgraded.

Searching the forum I think that I will be given an option to choose a DE when logging in.  Is this correct?
Thanks

At the login screen, click on Sessions to open your menu of choices of DEs to log in to.

task-kde4-minimal will install the minimal amount of packages to have the kde desktop. You may want more than that.

Thanks Neal.  Is there an option other than task-kde4-minimal that would install a more complete kde desktop?

task-kde4
Neal, I do not see task-kde4 when I go into Synaptic.
Doing a search for task my list goes from:
task-kadu
task-kde4-help
task-kde4-minimal   (which I was why I asked about this one)
task-kde-theme-coffee

I do not see just task-kde4.  I opened Synaptic and reloaded right before posting this.

Same here.  No task-kde4.  Re-loaded a few hours ago.

Same here. Repo is http://ftp.ch.debian.org/mirror/pclinuxos/apt/. There's a task-kde4-minimal and a task-qt4. The full KDE4 metapackage has gone missing.

Open Synaptic > reload > lower left, click Sections > left menu, scroll down to Graphical desktop/KDE4 and click it. Your KDE4 packages will be shown on the right.
