I had been experiencing some stability issues for a little while on my laptop. According to a thread on here, another member had many of the same issues and all them were fixed after a fresh install. I figured since I was going to reinstall to fix everything, I might as well check out a few other distro's and even a BSD variant I had read about to see how much has changed since I converted to PCLOS years ago.
I went through no less than 5 different installs. Sometimes everything worked on the Live session but not in the installed enviroment. Sometimes the Live session just wouldn't finish loading. Most of the issues should have been simple fixes. Video driver, wireless driver, etc... Others were more in depth. mounting NFS shares at boot or just finding NFS shares.
I spent two days flexing the old noggin trying out different distros and trying to get them to be half as good as my previous unstable installation. Needless to say, once I decided to quit playing aroung and go ahead and put my PCLOS back on, in one evening (last night) I had almost everything back to the way they were supposed to be. All drivers worked without me doing anything. Resolution was right, wireless was connected and connected at boot. NFS shares were mounted during boot. I had all the codecs installed that should be there, plugins too.
Long story short, PCLOS has once again proven itself to be the best distro for the beginner, intermediate, and experts. I strongly encourage everyone if they can, go play with the others for a day or two. You will have a new found appreciation for our favorite OS. But be forewarned, it's bad out there. Really bad.

PCLinuxOS has no wealthy sponsors and can only survive with your donations! Don't wait it might be too late.
