My Synaptic package manager will not start when I use the the launcher.  It will open in a terminal after i su it.  Just an annoyance, any suggestions on how to fix that?  I looked around the forum for about an hour, but if you have a link to something I missed that would be cool.  I tried to re-install it but no go.  I'm using upgraded pclinuxos-kde-2011.09.

Thanks for your time.

exit your session (logout/login) or reboot, and see if that helps?

Than you Pinoc.  That worked, but I am looking for info about how to tell what processes are running, and how to figure out what command to run in a terminal to run a program.  I used to know how to figure it out.  Like if I wanted to run Amarok, where do I look in that program to figure out the command line entry?  I will continue to look around but if you have any ideas I would be grateful.  Thanks

You open a terminal and at the prompt type amarok then press the Enter key.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

usually you do not need to know the command to run a program, just start it from the start menu subentries or the desktop launchers. Else open a terminal (e.g. "konsole" in KDE) and enter the name of the program, like amarok and press the Enter key. Or open a desktop launcher in a text editor and look at the Exec-line. Or check the details of the start menu entries browsing them in the menu editor.

If you want to know the exact command in the menu selection, right click on the menu icon and select "Edit applications."
