Final final attempt to get parallel printer working

I have just found out that my parallel printer works on Fedora 16. So now that will be my main linux.
At least i do not have to go back to windows.
Still much prefer pclos.
Why does Fedora work when so many other distros do not?

The reason you get "denied" is the use of <user> only privileges, to unlock content here <root> privileges are needed, like:

[root@localhost ~]# lspci -nnv

Do you mind running the instruction as root and copy your section again, with "unlocked capabilities"

It is up to you but how do you know it does not work? A statement is not fact. Just as I can say I don't believe that it does not work. Until I have seen that driver in action or looked inside it I am open minded.

1.. You say it works in other Distros
2.. The card reveals too addresses
3.. The standard 3 parallel ports, whose addresses are no where near above
4.. parport_pc driver/module I believe looks for those standard addresses

It is likely your card never gets addressed correctly everything goes to the wrong address.
The other distros may have a slightly different way of handling this situation (get parport_pc out of the way ??)

If you have a driver and carefully boot parport_pc out of the way it is likely that your card may be addressed correctly.  I do not remember that that was looked at in depth in previous posts.  Most likely because it is some time since paralellport use has been a topic here but if you are doing CNC stuff you would.

In my opinion there is a chance fx using blacklisting that your card will work. I admit I can be on the wrong track but until I see the facts I sticking to my opinion.  I may be slow but I know where I am heading and what I don't know others do.

A driver source for 2.4 kernels was supplied. No use.

another distro 9.04 and Fedora current version, work out of the box.

Anyway i use Fedora now.

Will try pclos 64 bit when it is ready!

I have just added some more comments in my previous post. It is fine by me if you want to leave it at that. I would like to get to the bottom of this based on facts that I can understand is telling me it is no go or not.

I will see if I can get that card and test on my stepper motors.

I have an old parallel matrix printer that i had connected to my pc by a usb to parallel adaptor because my pc does not have a parallel port. This worked intermittently (as most seem to do) so i bought a pci-e parallel port card.

Bit of a snag, Mr Bits did not use the "Notify me of replies" so his posts turned up in various places, now been cleaned up on Forum.

Hower above hangs around.  It is not a normal parallel port as far as I can understand, the PCIe card uses shifted addresses for one thing. I have not been able to reconcile my understanding from all previous info that I gathered in the worst place, my head. But the subject has caught my attention

Thanks for jogging my memory. He's using a PCIe card that "emulates" a parallel port, if I remember correctly? Seems like I remember already replying to one (or more) of his posts.
