When I try to install Eagle CADsoft 6, I get the following error:

error while loading shared libraries: libpng14.so.14: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

The newest version of libpng in the repositories is 1.2.43.

I would appreciate any help getting this to work. And yes, I have searched here and w/ Google.

Thanks,
john

http://www.cadsoftusa.com/

This is commercial software and is not supported here.
If you installing outside the repositories is at your own risk!
If there are incompatible libs issues then there's no go.

Note: freeware is not open source software!

jgr,

You would be best to consult the provider of that application for assistance, for the reason JohnW_57 states.

There are however CAD applications in our repository heeksCAD & qcad

I am not sure of the version but a few weeks ago when I was a bit desperate to get some measurements from a printed circuit board made with Eagle Lite I did install it successfully under KDE-mini. My problem I seemed to be lost in the program as I am used to a different program but had access to the board lay out done in Eagle.  Ended up getting my vernier out and doing quick outline measurement.

I guess you have tried out KiCad that is found in repo, depends on how sophisticated you are in this area.  For simple jobs it is quite acceptable and has move a long way since I first saw it about 18 monts ago I think.
