Last week I installed Zen Mini on my 3yo Acer Aspire One. I've done a complete reinstall three times now and still get the same two problems. They may or may not be related.

During installation, I enter the root/admin password. After installation, I can log on as a user and enter that root password to launch protected programs, as normal. What I can't do is log on from the start as root. It says I've either entered the wrong username or password, and reminds me about case sensitivity, which I'm certain of when I try to log on as root.

The root password also works if I su in a terminal logged on as user.

Second possibly related problem: after updating (each of the three installs), I installed wicd. When I reboot and log on as user (since I can't as root), a popup informs me that it can't launch wicd as root, no such file or directory.

Possibly related 2.5: I just tried to uninstall wicd and got this error message:
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.

That might have been wicd disconnecting itself from my wifi. My wifi went off and reconnected.

I rarely log on as root, I'd just like to be able to occasionally.

Fair warning: I am a whiny, selfish brat who should be denied access to 2010, per a moderator. Box: Acer Aspire One 110-xxxx model. XP wiped (and flushed), 2010 gnome (despite mod) grafted onto 8g flash HD via livecd.

Hi.

Login as a normal user and than open terminal and login as a root "su" than type "passwd" that will change password so try set up root password as a "root" (just for test, later you can change on your password)... than logout and try login as a root.

siamer
