Hi, For many years since the early eighties I have experimented with many different systems but have always fallen short with the satisfaction effect.  I have been using pclos now for about six months and I have to say it is brilliant. Live cd, works on my Samsung laptop and fast as anything on my desktop. Great stuff !!!

I thought it was about time to register and use the full forum. I wish to congratulate Texstar and everybody who have contributed to the creation of pclos.

Many thanks.

Hi mumbojumbo - big welcome to the forum, lovely to have you with us.

Out of curiousity, which desktop are you using?

Hi, menotu

Thanks for the interest.

The desktop comprises of:

Pentium(R) Dual-Core  CPU      E6500  @ 2.93GHz
500 GB Western Digital HDD
G96 [GeForce 9500 GT] video card
Gigabyte G41MT-S2P Motherboard
Pluscom Caddy
Generic 4 card reader
£15 Sony DVD burner

I used to run xp on my old machine which had a 9550 quad core, but I had so much trouble with the system hanging when rendering video my blood pressure was at a point where I hated turning the damned thing on. Then I discovered pclos and decided to build a quick chuck together machine with parts that were on offer and blow me down what a pleasant surprise when I ran the cd on the machine before even connecting the hdd. Very pleased indeed. In fact I have not turned on my old machine since September 2011.

The small number of win programs I use, I now run in virtualbox. At the moment I have been experimenting with installing osx snow leopard in virtualbox. All this is fantastic as I now realise that most of my stability problems would have been cured a long time ago if I had switched sooner.

Welcome to PCLinuxOS, mumbojumbo!!!!  I'm sure you will love it here!!!

Which type of PCLinuxOS did you install? Does it use KDE, Xfce or what? Just curious... I'm using Xfce.

If you feel a little crazy after tweaking your computer, feel free to visit the Sandbox, and if you want to read, the community publishes a magazine.

Something for everyone....

Hi, To all from Germany,
My old Foreman came from Germany and when he used to drink he used to let me try Jagermeister. Wow, great stuff at 10 in the morning.

Sorry I'm a bit late replying as I have been a little under the weather.

Meemaw wanted to know what system I am using.

I tried different flavours of installation but I settled on pclinuxos kde 2011.6. This I have been updating regulary. I have to say the installation went remarkably smoothly. The only problem which really stumped me was when I tried to back up my system on to dvd. Eventually I bought a 16gb usb drive and used that instead.
