ElCuervo - With OpenShot, how did you get the Help files running? Yes - I have its "docs" package installed - and have tried starting it from terminal.

Looks as if it'd be a quick and handy device - with a few instructions...

Regards, Dave.

+1
......  no Help files show up ......  acts as if the doc package is not installed .....

I just did a capture with kdenlive and cheese, use a Logitech Pro 9000.

What is the make/model of the webcam you're using?

What did you use Cheese for? Pre-record the video, save to a file and then import it into Kdenlive?
No, just testing my webcam, and seeing if it would record, with a basic application.

Kdenlive is supposed to be able to record from the webcam ......  which it will do .....  but won't record the sound from the webcam MIC.

Also it plays back the video at what appears to be 2x speed.

I am looking for an app that will record both video and sound and then allow me to edit it.
Sound came in fine, once I adjusted the proper source in kdenlive.

Webcam is working fine

Not sure what else to suggest, off the top of my head...I'll see what percolates in my head after a while... Roll Eyes

Do you know what driver(s) your webcam uses?  Mine is using uvcvideo and snd_usb_audio.

I go to settings for the cam grab ......  and under Audio I go to the drop-down list of audio devices .......  and no webcam showing there ......  only HDMI and audio card .....

So does your camera show in the list of audio devices available there?

Oh, no.  My apologies.

Now that (you've made me  Wink) look in more detail, it appears the audio came from the laptop's mic, possibly, and not the webcam's... Sad

Here are the kdenlive settings:

Then, I compared them to my skype settings:

nuts...

Thanks for checking it ........  I thought I was missing something, but apparently not.

So now the search continues ......  for an app that will capture video and audio from the webcam and allow some basic editing of the saved stream.

I'm out of time (for testing) today, but if my feeble memory holds up, I'll take a stab at VLC (and any others that might come to mind...)

VLC does not provide editing features .....

I was thinking, if all else fails, of a two-step approach...
1) Save a stream
2) Edit in application

just thinkin'

The best results I got, recording from webcam, were when using Kamoso.

Much better than Cheese or other.

So if I have to use a 2 stage thing, then the first stage will be with Kamoso methinks!

Maybe mplayer, and mencoder
There is enough stuff on http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/index.html

just the best way is first capture with a raw codec, and then edit in application
