problems with sound

I have a Soundblaster 5.1VX pci card but i also have a Radeon 5770HD gfx card that also carries sound.

Problem I have is with every new boot up I get the following message.

KDE detected that one or more internal sound devices were removed

Do you want KDE to permanently forget about these devices ?

This is the list of devices KDE thinks can be removed:

Capture: Sound Blaster 5.1vs [SB1070](CA106)
Output: Sound Blaster 5.1vs [SB1070](CA106)

Is there anyway i can solve this problem because otherwise i think PCLinix OS is one of the best distro's going.

let it remove the devices, the sound will work

the video card, does it have a hdmi output?

it is possible that the system has problems to handle the soundcard bridge in that video card hdmi port

there is some posts on this forum talking about the problem and possible solutions

also it is possible that you need to install the amd video card drivers available on synaptic but i can't confirm this, maybe you already have it so all could be ok, lets wait for someone with similar hardware that could give us more information here

yeah i have done a full update on everything so i think it did install the drivers.

When I had this OS first i tried to install the offical drivers on the ati site and when i rebooted it went to the bash commands.

As I am not up on bash commands and such I had to reinstall and I have left that driver well alone.

I have been very impressed by this Os and i fee that its better than anything else I that used Linux wise.

yes, install drivers from the website is a pita

the ones the official already prepared on the repos that can be installed by using synaptic package manager are simple to use but sometimes you don't need them or you already are using them

sorry for not helping you with the sound but i don't have a sound blaster anymore and my video card is old as dust

I have the same ATI5770 graphics card as you but a slightly different problem, for me sound works but does
not work with any browser, firefox , chromium all fail to produce sound.

Post the output of (as root)
