The truth is out there ... PCLinuxOS!

It's typical to select the repository that is closest to your geographical location. Alternatively, you can run Repo Speed Test and select the repository that gives you the fastest speed. Of course, it's uncommon to get a connection faster than that of the PASS server, which you get access to after making a donation to help keep PCLinuxOS going.

Whatever you do, DO NOT enable more than one repository at a time (excluding the special games repo, which can be activated with any other selected repo).

Hi,

Any idea where that went to, the button to access the
contribution screen, appears to have moved.

tm, it is important to note that technically all of the repos are mirrors of one main repo. In other words, in the end, they are all the same.

Like Parnote said though, pick only one.  Wink

I recently read that PASS donations are temporarily out of service.

It was posted here in the forum, but I do not remember the reason for it. I can not seem to find the post right now, perhaps someone else will know.

I believe the reason for the pass being down was upgrading and improvements.

The Repo speed test program was removed by Texstar for whatever reason (my guess is because having it resulted in nearly everyone using the same repo. That would be less than ideal.)

I've just run one.  It is in the applications menu under "Software Centre" and is called "Update Package Sources List."

If you already have it installed it will show up in your menu and in Synaptic.

The apt-sources-update package (which provides the repo speed test) is not currently in the repo.  It was removed because it was found to be inaccurate in some cases.  A new version has been created and submitted but has not yet been added to the repo.

See this thread for details.
