I have a really cool PCLOS (KDE) setup on my family computer.  I have set up each of my family members with their own login, wallpapers, Firefox (with custom personas, etc).  Being safe and stable, I thought it would be neat to get my son (who is eight) a cheapo mp3 (Machspeed Trio Touch 4) player to play with.  I even searched around before I bought it to see if it would be linux compatible.  From what I have read, it is.  So far, I have installed just about every music player and Ipod controller I can find and none of them even recognize the unit.  I was able to successfully transfer music to it via Dolphin, but the files show up as unknown artist, unknown track even though I named them.  When I browse the files on the player, they show up as named.  To date, I have only ripped 1 CD to it and I'm afraid to do more as I don't want a bunch of unnamed artists and songs on there.  Any ideas on how to get this to sync properly (or even show up) with one of the music players?

Did you copy/paste using Dolphin?

How does Amarok identifies the music files?

Yes, I copied and pasted via Dolphin.  The files show up as .ogg files and are playable.  The sample files on the unit itself are .wmv's

Did you make sure they are in named folders?

For example:
Code:
MP3player/Artist/Album
  Song.mp3

Code:
Music/Eric Church/Carolina
02 Lotta Boot Left To Fill.mp3

Also did you try seeing if Clementine picked it up under "devices", because clementine should even work with USB mass storage.

Looks good and the prices I saw very decent  Smiley

Checked the TCH manual, and doesn't mention .ogg only MP3 and WMA

I mentioned Amarok because I wanted to know if the name was "in" the audio file independently of the name of the file, if it shows in the play list. You can fix that using Amarok or another program like easy tag or kid3.

glamdring, I did set up the files structure and name as you stated, and they do show up on the player and the do play.  They are just unnamed.  If I unplug and replug the player, Clementine sees it shortly, but it says it is unconnected and won't connect.  Crow, I'll look into the naming programs you suggested.  I wonder if I can rip my cd's to WMA to solve the problem.

Try using easytag and mp3info, you can always perform these operations in WMP via wine too.

EDIT: Just realized Crow suggested easytag already.  Wink

I'll try that.  Any ideas on getting it to sync, though?

Did you try using software to essentially backup a folder to a mass storage device? For example backup folder called Music or Current_music to the device. First program that comes to mind is rsync, but I'm sure there are even easier faster one for such a simple operation like krusader dirsync.

As for a graphical sync, did you try Rhythmbox?

Maybe I didn't explain myself I'm talking about run the audio files from your HD not from the player and check if the play list shows the info.

Why WMA? you can use MP3 instead as seen in the manual of the device

About the connectivity issue try running Clementine from the command line and post the reported errors and maybe someone (not me  Undecided ) may help you.
