I just want to know the proper procedure for recovering items in lost+found directory if i find any. This is my situation: I was using a linux system (not PClinuxOS) and it froze. I tried restarting X by doing <Ctrl><Alt><Backspace>, nothing happened. I tried <ctrl><alt> Nothing either so finally i decided to use the power button. I was working on at least one txt document but I am not sure i saved anything before the freeze.... so if i find anything in lost+found when i log back in, how should i proceed ?
Thanks in advance

If neither Ctrl-Alt-Backspace nor Ctrl-Alt-Del works, try the magic SysRq keys before you hit the power button. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key#.) Do a forum search on how to best enter them.

If you find anything in a lost+found directory, you are, as they say, on your own: you have to check its contents yourself. On the other hand, the program you were using when Linux froze may be able to restore whatever you were writing or editing.

In addition, sometimes you may find a file by the same name in the same directory called "same.name~".

If that is the case, depending on the program you were using, it is usually the last save point that the program did.

Good luck.  Wink

This is not the place to get support for some other distro, Michel. You should ask on their forum.
