Got any blacker?

« on: December 28, 2011, 09:34:21 PM »

Hi guys.
I have noticed that trying to open K3b in my VM causes a problem where it either only gets as far as the splash screen or it won't open at all. The mouse pointer still moves but nothing can be selected or opened on the desktop, open programs stop responding also.  Huh
I have not tried opening k3b in kosole yet, I will try later and post.

Working here with no problem. How much of your PC's resources have you given the VM?

Should not matter, but have you tried going to Devices->CD/DVD-><your RW drive> to mount it before opening K3b?  I am thinking it might be looking for the burner while opening.

Also, as said, how much RAM does your Guest have?

I gave my VM 2 cores and 2 GB of RAM, 128 MB of Video RAM, VT-x/AMD, Nested Paging, PAE/NX and 60 GB of HDD.
I tried starting K3b with Kosole, I got a complaint about Klocale, then a K3b crash error 5, after that KDE crashed with only the Kosole and net-applet visible. I tried to save the output of the kosole and then I was dropped to shell where I could not log in.
My MacbookPro had to be reset after that.

One thing that hasn't been asked or answered are the CD/DVD drive settings for the guest in VirtualBox. Is the drive set as the host PC's drive, and is passthrough enabled?
