I just bought a printer for the wife for Christmas, and I just can't get it to work.

I did a little looking, and I found the another distro/Suse drivers here: http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0040266.asp

I extracted the files, read through the manual, and ran the install script. I keep getting this error

Code:
An error occurred. A necessary package could not be found in the proper location

I have no idea what necessary package it would be talking about. I did go into synaptic and install the canon pixma common files, but that didn't help at all. I don't know what the next step to take would be. That being said, I really hope someone can help me figure this one out.

Have you tried installing task-printing and task-printing-canon packages in Synaptic?

I have just installed "task-printing-canon" on my KDE-mini and by doing

Code:
[root@localhost gert]# lpinfo -m >>/home/gert/Desktop/120108-KDE-mini_available_printers.glk
[root@localhost gert]#

I have sent all printers available to CUPS server to a file on my desktop. Opened the file in kwrite, F7 and type "sort" the file is then nicely ordered.

Using the normal search for mp280 or pixma. I had some trouble with capitals letters in the search, forgot to turn on/off something but in the end I found:

gutenprint.5.2://bjc-MULTIPASS-MP280/expert Canon PIXMA MP280 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7
gutenprint.5.2://bjc-MULTIPASS-MP280/simple Canon PIXMA MP280 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7 Simplified

(I don't know why but I find it a bit that our Canon S820. used in Windows does not show, not a problem as I don't use this on Linux yet)
