[SOLVED] Help with Full Monty 2011.9 install to a second hard drive

Firstly, let me say Hi.  Im new here, so thanks for any help offered  before I go any further.
OK, my problem:
I have a live CD of full monty 2011.9 which Im trying to install on my desktop pc as dual boot with xp.  I am trying to put FM on a drive of it's own and leave the xp drive alone.
The drive in question is a 40Gb which I formatted as 'swap 3Gb', '/ 24Gb' and '/home 10Gb'. (both / and /home were ext4).  The install runs but right at the very end I get an error message 'Unable to write files to '/' and then the install stops and I return to livedvd desktop.

Just to be clear, 'C' drive is xp and I want to leave it alone, 'D' drive is 40 Gb, formatted as per install help suggestions but still not working.

Did you set the installer to format it or were they already prepared?

If you didn't do so, try the following:

At the partitioning step, select your "/" and "/home" and tick "Use as: ext4" and "Format partition". The installer will then format the partitions again. This will work to 99%. Still 1% left though

Sorry about that, I should have given more info.
I set up the partitions manually with the setup wizard, then formatted them with the format button in advanced mode.  Had to reboot for it to take effect, then started install again and used the partitions, manually to install to.  The install goes all the way along (blue progress bar almost to the end of its travel) then the error comes up about not being able to write the files to '/'

normally you will get this error if "/" is not big enough. No idea what is going wrong, it should work if "/" is at least 20GB. Are you sure you have this assignment and not used only 10GB for "/"? Alternatively, try to setup only two partitions, 2GB for Swap, and all the rest for "/".

Thanks for the advice both.  I have double checked the partition sizes.  When i initially did the install, the help files for the install used a 40Gb driive as example of partition sizes so I just copied them.  I will try the suggestion of just the 2 partitions of swap and '/' and see how it goes.

Well, finally home from work and installed as you suggested with just 2 partitions and hey presto!  it works!!
